On November 25, 2025, the Oval Hall of the Rectorate at the University of Prishtina hosted the central academic and informational event as part of Global Careers Month 2025, an international initiative coordinated by IAG WGCG and promoted across universities and educational institutions worldwide.

Organized by the Division for Academic Development, Quality, Monitoring, and Career Services, in collaboration with the Department of Psychology – Faculty of Philosophy, the event brought together institutional representatives, academics, students, and labor market stakeholders to strengthen the role of career guidance for youth in an era of rapid socio-economic and technological change.

The keynote session, titled “Navigating an Era of Change: Guiding Youth Toward the Careers of the Future”, focused on the importance of career guidance and skills development. Discussions emphasized the need for sustainable policies supporting the transition from education to employment, while addressing global opportunities and challenges for youth amid green and digital transformations. The event also aimed to position the University of Prishtina as a model for modern European approaches linking higher education and the labor market, in line with the European Skills Agenda and the Youth Guarantee initiative.

The activity opened with a welcoming address by Prof. Dr. Majlinda Gjelaj, Vice-Rector for Institutional Development, Quality, and Student Affairs.
"The University of Prishtina is committed to building strong bridges between education and the labor market. Through initiatives like this, we aim to equip our students with the knowledge, skills, and guidance needed to navigate the careers of the future," Gjelaj stated.

Shkumbin Tafilaj, Head of the Division for Academic Development, Quality, Monitoring, and Career Services (acting), highlighted the strategic importance of strengthening institutional mechanisms that support student and youth career development, positioning the University of Prishtina as a leadership hub in aligning higher education with labor market needs.

Prof. Assoc. Dr. Liridona Jemini-Gashi delivered the opening presentation titled “Career Guidance in Kosovo and the Role of UP in Career Development”, highlighting the central role of the University of Prishtina in shaping institutional policies for career guidance and the importance of collaboration with international partners such as the European Training Foundation (ETF) and Career Lead. In this context, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Liridona Jemini-Gashi has played a pivotal role in strategically positioning the University of Prishtina within these international networks, through her academic contribution, research engagement, and active participation in developing collaborative frameworks that strengthen UP’s profile in the field of career development.

The activity featured video messages from European partners, including Florian Kadletz from the European Training Foundation (ETF) and Rudolf Schröder from the international scientific network Career Lead. Their messages emphasized their strong commitment to supporting Kosovo and the University of Prishtina in advancing modern career guidance systems and fostering sustainable skills development.

 

Discussions were enriched by diverse youth and academic perspectives. Ditjon Fetahu from the Kosovo Youth Council addressed challenges and expectations of young people entering the labor market, while Besiana Muzlija from PharmaSphere Club presented innovative practices by medical students in developing professional competencies. Academic contributions were complemented by Prof. Dr. Elmedina Nikoçević Kurti, who emphasized the need for capacity building among educators for future careers, as well as Ass. Dr. Kaltrina Jusufi and Ass. Dr. Arbnore Ibrahimaj Gashi, who shared interdisciplinary and practical approaches of their faculties in preparing students for the modern and global labor market.

The event aimed to strengthen the connection between higher education and the labor market, promote collaborations with international partners such as ETF and Career Lead as examples of good European practice, and stimulate discussions on skills development for career guidance during the education-to-employment transition. It also contributed to formulating recommendations for sustainable institutional and national policies in the field of career guidance.

The activity successfully concluded the University of Prishtina’s participation in Global Careers Month 2025, reaffirming its role as a leading institution in advancing career development policies nationally and regionally.
