The continuous efforts of UP's management and the leaders of the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine (FAVM) have made it possible to relocate the high-voltage pylon situated next to the faculty’s new building. The Rector’s Office, headed by Prof. Arben Hajrullahu, worked closely with FAVM leadership and, thanks to strong inter‑institutional commitment, successfully moved the high‑voltage pylon that had been standing beside the new facility.
After more than ten years of standing idle, the removal of the international high‑voltage line near the building now opens the way for UP to finally put the new FAVM building into service. This important step improves infrastructure safety and creates the conditions needed for the full use of the new premises.
The faculty’s new building had remained abandoned partly because it was constructed too close to a high‑voltage electricity pylon. Additionally, the pylon could not be removed earlier due to KEDS storage facilities located on university land.
UP staff were forced to physically block entry to these storage areas using heavy equipment. To explain the situation publicly, Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu also held a press conference on December 5, 2025, where he raised the alarm that FAVM risked losing accreditation over lack of space.
Although KEDS has since cleared its storage facilities from the area near the new FAVM building, unauthorized commercial use of UP property continues in the vicinity.
Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu calls on the relevant authorities to act immediately to free the university’s land. Without the release of the remaining university-owned areas near the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine building, the facility cannot become operational.
The new FAVM building, left unused for over a decade, now needs further investment to become functional in time to welcome both new and current students in September 2026 for the start of the 2026/27 academic year.
