In an interview with the national public broadcaster RTK, the Rector of the University of Prishtina, Prof. Arben Hajrullahu, stated that UP is in a much stronger position than before and emphasized that intensive efforts are underway to ensure the university keeps pace with modern times.

Rector Hajrullahu highlighted several achievements during his tenure and outlined his vision for UP's future development, focusing on three key areas: improving collaboration among academic units, increasing international engagement, and advancing digital transformation.

He noted that over the past year, UP has expanded its cooperation more than ever before, signing over 100 new bilateral agreements with universities, institutions, and organizations worldwide—including more than 50 agreements under the EU’s Erasmus+ program and strengthening partnerships with local bodies as well. In 2025, more than 400 UP students, professors, and administrative staff spent time abroad, while around 130 international students and professors visited UP.

The Rector also presented a detailed digital transformation plan prepared by UNDP, aimed at making the university more accessible to the public and streamlining administrative processes within three to five years. This effort seeks to reduce inefficiencies and increase transparency and accountability.

He added that he has requested, and will continue to seek financial support from national institutions and donors for this and other projects.

Rector Hajrullahu stressed the need for a social package at UP to allow some staff members to take early retirement. He also cautioned that future salary levels should reflect staff commitment and performance.

Reiterating his view on the mission of higher education, he explained that a university must prepare graduates to think critically and rationally, equipping them with skills for professional and personal success. Rector Hajrullahu remarked that relations between university management and students are at an all-time high and encouraged students to be even more ambitious and proactive.

He also addressed the issue of illegally occupied UP properties, announcing that the university is taking legal steps to reclaim them. Rector Hajrullahu called on law enforcement to act swiftly and decisively against those occupying UP property without authorization. He issued a direct appeal to all illegal occupants to vacate UP premises immediately and without exception—including properties attached to the new Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine building, which must be returned to university use as soon as possible.

The interview aired on the day the University of Prishtina celebrated its 56th anniversary with a formal ceremony.
