Throughout 2025, the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Prishtina published 24 scientific papers and took part in 14 conferences. These activities were funded by the University with €39,921.60.
As one of the University of Prishtina’s most important academic units which laid the groundwork for and has continually advanced healthcare and public health in Kosovo the Faculty of Medicine had a strong year in research and international engagement.
Faculty academics published 24 papers in journals indexed in Web of Science and Scopus. Of these, 15 papers appeared in the SCIE, SSCI, and AHCI categories of Web of Science, and 8 were published in Scopus, spread across quartiles Q1 to Q4 (2 in Q1, 2 in Q2, 0 in Q3, and 4 in Q4). Additionally, one scientific chapter was published by a Web of Science-indexed publisher.
The University of Prishtina provided the Faculty with €22,200 for scientific publications and €17,721.60 for participation in or organization of 14 scientific conferences (11 international and 3 regional).
In November 2025, former Faculty of Medicine professor and internationally recognized surgeon associated with Arizona State University, Prof. Rifat Latifi, was appointed Director of the Center for Research, Simulation, and Advanced Training of Kosova (CRSATK) at the University of Prishtina.
The Center, which will offer education and research support across all surgical disciplines and address key areas such as medical diplomacy and advanced technology, was founded in July 2025. In September of that year, a memorandum of cooperation was signed between the University of Prishtina and the Kosovo College of Surgeons, outlining the Center’s operational details.
This year also marked the conclusion of the EU-funded “NanoKos” project, coordinated by the University of Prishtina’s Faculty of Medicine in partnership with the University of Milan, the University of Parma, and King’s College London. The project aimed to strengthen Kosovo’s research capacity in nanoparticles for health and environmental applications.
Another key part of the Faculty of Medicine — the Dentistry Department, celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2025. Additionally, last year, the Faculty rolled out electronic tracking of teaching activities using QR codes for the first time.
