The University of Prishtina (UP) is now a member of EDCH/DIAMAS, a European network that aims to strengthen capacity for academic publishing under the Diamond Open Access model. This model promotes open, trustworthy, and sustainable scientific publishing that is free of charge for both authors and readers, in accordance with the recommendations of the Council of the European Union and UNESCO.

This membership comes at a pivotal time for UP, as a new Publishing Regulation was adopted in July 2025. This regulation mandates that the University's academic outputs, including books, scientific journals, and other publications, will be published in the Diamond Open Access format.

This means that staff, students, and the wider public will have free and unlimited access to UP's publications, while authors will not pay any fees for publishing. Instead, they will be supported by UP through its annual publishing plan.

UP's institutional membership in DIAMAS was made possible through the journal "Kosova Anthropologica," which meets the core criteria of a journal published under the Diamond Open Access model.

The Editor-in-Chief of "Kosova Anthropologica" and a member of the UP Publishing Council, Prof. Arsim Canolli, highly valued the University of Prishtina's membership in this European academic network. "We are very happy that UP is now part of DIAMAS. Through 'Kosova Anthropologica,' we lobbied and secured UP's membership at the institutional level. This membership brings numerous benefits, including opportunities for cooperation with EU institutions to strengthen our publishing capacities," stated Professor Canolli.

As a public university with a developing and robust research infrastructure, this membership in DIAMAS positions UP within a European framework that values open science, fair and accessible publishing, and the building of institutional capacity for high-quality scientific publishing. DIAMAS offers collaborative platforms, organizational publishing models, technical support, and access to joint training and development initiatives.

The Rector, Prof. Arben Hajrullahu, thanked Prof. Arsim Canolli for his continued commitment to developing and fulfilling UP's mission. He emphasized that this membership is the best proof that through work and dedication, even goals that may initially seem difficult to achieve can be accomplished.

With this step, the University of Prishtina reaffirms its commitment to a transparent, public, and equitable knowledge ecosystem, making science more open and beneficial for society.
