UP's Faculty of Economics Holds Conference on Continuous Work Towards Full Gender Equality

At a conference organized by the Faculty of Economics at the University of Prishtina (UP), with support from local and international organizations, discussions focused on the economic empowerment of women and girls and the role of state and public institutions in promoting gender equality.

The second edition of the "Gender Equality and Institutions" Conference brought together members of the academic community from UP, regional and European universities, economics experts, heads of Kosovo's institutions, and representatives of international organizations in Kosovo.

During three thematic sessions, participants discussed the role of educational institutions in advancing gender equality, women's migration and their representation in the labor market, and policies for their economic empowerment.

At the opening of the conference, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Prof. Driton Balaj, addressed the attendees. He stated that gender equality is and remains a core value of the institution he leads and of Kosovar society.

The Vice-Rector for Internationalization and Academic Exchange, Prof. Rozafa Basha, highlighted UP management's strong commitment to gender equality and the university's concrete results in this field. She called for concrete action, emphasizing that reflection on gender equality alone is not enough.

The Executive Director of the Agency for Gender Equality within the Prime Minister's Office, Edi Gusia, also spoke. She noted that the cooperation between her office and UP's Faculty of Economics is a clear example of how an executive institution and a higher education institution can work together to implement gender equality policies.

The Head of the UN Women Office in Kosovo, Vlora Nushi, described higher education institutions as one of the best tools for advancing gender equality. The conference then continued with its thematic sessions.

During the conference, perspectives on gender equality and the economic empowerment of women were presented by local and international experts and professors from the United States, Great Britain, Turkey, Germany, Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Albania, and Kosovo.
