The University of Prishtina renewed its cooperation agreement with the non-governmental organization “The Voice of the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptians.”
The purpose of this agreement is to create a framework for working together to support Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian students during their university studies.
The agreement states that support for students from these three communities will be provided through existing institutional systems, as well as through the development of new support mechanisms if needed.
The agreement was signed by Professor Arben Hajrullahu, Rector of the University of Prishtina, and Mr. Orhan Butic, Education Officer at “The Voice of the Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptians.”
Rector Hajrullahu emphasized that the university is committed to providing equal opportunities for all students. Meanwhile, Mr. Butic, the program’s deputy director, said that the main focus should be on increasing the number of new students from these communities joining the university.
Also present at the signing ceremony were Professor Majlinda Gjelaj, Vice Rector for Institutional Development, Quality Assurance, and Student Affairs, as well as Fortesa Shasivari, Education Program Officer at VORAE.
In August 2025, university leaders met with officials from VORAE and Arton Asllani, Member of Parliament representing the Ashkali community. Representatives from VORAE also visited the university when the university’s leadership met with representatives of NGOs specializing in education issues.
At the University of Prishtina, 12 percent of available spots for students each academic year are reserved for non-majority communities.
