A Polish delegation made up of university professors, business leaders, artists, and public officials visited the University of Prishtina.
The study visit was organized by Kosovo’s Consulate General in Warsaw and its Head of Mission, Ambassador Drilon S. Gashi, together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora. The guests were welcomed by the Rector of the University of Prishtina, Prof. Dr. Arben Hajrullahu, who spoke about UP’s history and its future plans.
“It is common for states to create universities but not so common for universities to create states. The University of Prishtina is one of those rare cases. This institution laid the foundations of Kosovo’s statehood,” said Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu in his opening remarks.
Following the rector’s address, a Chatham House‑style discussion was held, focusing on current security challenges in Kosovo and beyond. Participants included: Prof. Bekim Sejdiu, Director of the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies; Mr. Mentor Vrajolli, Director of the Warsaw Office of the German Marshall Fund; Philip Bednarczyk, Director of the Department for International Cooperation and Trade at Poland’s Ministry of Economic Development and Technology; Aleksander Siemaszko, Vice‑Rector of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw; Dr. Ignacy Zalewski, Chancellor of the same university; Mr. Paweł Sroczyński, former Polish Ambassador to the UK and previously to the US, now Rector of the University of Technology and Arts in Applied Sciences in Warsaw; Mr. Piotr Wilczek, Director of the Warsaw Office of the Aspen Institute; Mr. Bartłomiej Kot, Director General of the Polish Chamber of Commerce; Ms. Karolina Opielewicz; the noted conductor and Artistic Director of the First Polish Music Festival in Kosovo, Mr. Wojciech Semerau‑Siemianowski; Balkan Expert and Communications Coordinator at the Polish Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Kamil Hyszka; and Ambassador Gashi.
Also attending this important event, aimed at strengthening ties between universities and between Poland and Kosovo, were UP’s Vice‑Rector for Internationalization and Academic Development, Prof. Rozafa Basha; Vice‑Rector for Budget, Finance, and Cooperation with the Public and Private Sectors, Prof. Albana Berisha‑Qehaja; and Vice‑Rector for Teaching, Academic Staff, and Publications, Prof. Adem Beha.
Alongside the program, Vice‑Rector Prof. Rozafa Basha met with the Vice‑Rector for Scholarly Affairs of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, Dr. Hab. Ignacy Zalewski, and the university’s General Chancellor, Mr. Paweł Sroczyński.
They discussed opportunities for cooperation between the two institutions, especially how the Warsaw‑based university could support UP’s Department of Music in updating study programs, organizing joint academic and artistic activities, and strengthening institutional ties in music and the arts.
In November 2025, Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu and Vice‑Rector Prof. Rozafa Basha visited several Polish universities to expand collaboration. During that visit, UP signed a memorandum of understanding with the Łódź Film School, one of Europe’s most prestigious film academies. UP also signed a series of agreements with other general, technology, engineering, and arts universities, including the University of Warsaw, which ranks highest in both Polish and international ratings.
The Polish delegation visited Kosovo to meet key people and institutions, helping to further strengthen Kosovo‑Poland relations in the economy, politics, and culture. The visit also prepared the ground for the Polish Music Festival in Kosovo (POMIK), which is scheduled to launch in November 2026.
