The Career Development Center at the University of Prishtina, in collaboration with Success Skills International (SSI), organized a two-day workshop entitled “Skills for Career Success: Leadership, Effective Communication, and Labour Market Readiness”, an activity designed to equip students with essential competencies for professional development and successful integration into the labour market.
The workshop was held on 21-22 April 2026 and was built upon a contemporary learning approach that combined theoretical insights with practical application. In this context, the activity addressed the growing need for the development of transferable skills, which are considered crucial for preparing students to navigate the challenges of dynamic professional environments.
Throughout the workshop, participants enhanced their professional awareness and reflected on their positioning in the labour market, while simultaneously strengthening their interpersonal and professional communication skills. They were introduced to the fundamental concepts of leadership and their application in the early stages of a career. Through realistic simulations of job interviews and professional scenarios, participants developed concrete skills in self-presentation and decision-making. At the conclusion of the process, they designed individual plans for their further career development.
The workshop was led by Atifete Xhemaj, a trainer with extensive experience in professional skills development and youth preparation for the labour market, who applied a dynamic and practice-oriented approach throughout the training process. She emphasized that the workshop represented an important step toward empowering students with essential competencies required in today’s labour market, highlighting the importance of linking theoretical knowledge with the development of practical skills in communication, leadership, and professional self-presentation.
As part of the workshop’s impact assessment, participating students shared their experiences, reflecting on the concrete benefits gained from the training. Serafina Mazrekaj, a student at the Faculty of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, described the workshop as a transformative experience that enabled her to better understand the importance of professional self-awareness and the development of communication and leadership skills in building a career.
“This training was a transformative experience for me. It helped me better understand the importance of professional self-awareness and the development of communication and leadership skills in shaping my career path. Through practical exercises and real-life simulations, I gained greater confidence and clarity regarding my future professional steps”, Serafina noted.
Meanwhile, Fjolla Aliu, a student at the Faculty of Philology, highlighted that the workshop provided her with a new perspective on career preparation, helping her better understand the real demands of the labour market and the importance of developing practical skills.
“The training offered me a new perspective on preparing for the labour market. It helped me better understand its real demands and the importance of practical skills, particularly effective communication and interview preparation. This experience had a positive impact on my personal development and motivated me to continue working on building a strong professional profile”, Fjolla stated.
As part of the workshop activities, students also developed a practical learning output in the form of a structured guide titled “From Student to Professional: A Roadmap for Building a Professional Identity” [download poster here]. This material reflected the key concepts addressed during the training, including professional mindset, effective communication, job interview preparation, workplace behavior, and the first steps toward career development. Through this exercise, participants translated theoretical knowledge into a tangible and applicable resource, demonstrating their ability to critically engage with the content and to articulate essential competencies required for a competitive and sustainable professional profile in the contemporary labour market
The workshop programme followed a progressive structure, beginning with personal awareness and professional mindset, continuing with the development of leadership and communication skills, and concluding with concrete preparation for entering the labour market. The methodology combined reflective exercises, group discussions, and role-play simulations, aiming to ensure the acquisition of knowledge directly applicable in professional contexts.
At the end of the training, participants were awarded certificates of participation, and the activity was evaluated as a significant contribution to the holistic development of students and their successful integration into the labour market.
This activity was supported by Success Skills International (SSI) and the Kosovo Business Alliance, demonstrating the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and the professional sector in advancing youth employability and skills development.
