The University of Prishtina, in collaboration with the non-governmental organization Voice of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians (VORAE), organized for the third consecutive year an orientation session dedicated to high school graduates from marginalized groups, reaffirming its institutional commitment to promoting equal access to higher education and to developing effective mechanisms for social inclusion through education.
In a context where structural inequalities continue to affect access to higher education, particularly for marginalized communities, initiatives of this nature represent critical interventions aimed at reducing the educational gap and fostering conditions for sustainable social mobility. The session was designed as an inclusive space for information-sharing and reflection, with the objective of empowering young people to make informed decisions regarding their academic and professional futures.
The activity took place at the Career Development Center of the University of Prishtina, where participants engaged in a structured and interactive presentation on the higher education system. This included an overview of study structures across different levels, the interdisciplinary academic offer, as well as the student support services provided by the University. Particular emphasis was placed on opportunities for scholarships, international mobility programmes, and the role of extracurricular activities in developing transferable skills and enhancing students’ employability.
Within this framework, the strategic dimension of linking higher education with the labour market was also addressed, highlighting the importance of institutional partnerships and career mediation mechanisms in facilitating the transition from education to employment. This approach reflects a clear orientation towards building an education system that is better aligned with socio-economic developments and labour market demands.
A key component of the session focused on the role of the University as a public institution in promoting inclusion and equality in education, by creating concrete opportunities for the integration and advancement of young people from marginalized communities. Through this perspective, higher education is understood not only as an academic pathway, but also as a transformative instrument for individual empowerment and broader societal development.
In this context, Ms. Fortesa Shasivari, Programme Officer at VORAE, emphasized the importance of continuity in this collaboration and its long-term impact on young people: "Year by year, we are observing an increase in the number of graduates choosing to pursue higher education. This collaboration contributes to creating a clear and structured pathway for students, directly impacting their personal and professional development, as well as the advancement of the communities they come from".
Participants’ feedback further highlighted the practical value of the session, underlining that access to accurate and structured information plays a crucial role in building confidence and guiding their orientation towards higher education.
Hafije Makreshi from the High School of Economics and Law “Hoxhë Kadri Prishtina” in Fushë Kosovë stated: "The orientation session helped me better understand the structure of studies and the opportunities offered by the University of Prishtina. I now feel more confident in choosing my study programme and planning my professional path".
Meanwhile, Admir Rama from the Technical High School “Pjetër Bogdani” in Ferizaj emphasized: "This session provided me with a clear overview of academic opportunities and professional development pathways. The information on the application process and scholarship opportunities has helped me feel more prepared to make informed decisions about my future".
In conclusion, this activity represents a consolidated example of effective cooperation between public institutions and civil society organizations, contributing to the development of a more inclusive and equitable society. Through such initiatives, higher education is affirmed as a fundamental mechanism for social advancement, professional development, and the sustainable empowerment of young people, creating tangible prospects for a more equal and integrated future.
