In a meeting between Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu and MP Sala Jashari, the First Deputy Chair of the Kosovo Assembly's Committee on Education, Science and Technology, the two discussed the path forward for the University of Prishtina (UP) and Kosovo's higher education system.
MP Jashari emphasized that the committee's door is open to UP's leadership and stressed that education must be made a central priority.
The discussion covered the key challenges facing UP. These include issues with property rights violations, the university's limited budget, and unfair competition from private education providers that operate as for-profit businesses, despite regulations requiring them to be non-profit. The meeting also addressed the need to bring all of Kosovo's higher education institutions under a unified national framework.
Rector Hajrullahu called for stronger cooperation from state institutions to empower UP. He stressed that the sustainable development of the country is not possible without a strong University of Prishtina. He affirmed that the university and its leadership remain open, committed, and dedicated to public service.
MP Jashari, who shared that her own motivation for entering politics was education, stated that strengthening UP is a personal priority for her, noting that she is also a former student of the university.
