Representatives from the "Vildana" Foundation, created by the Kosovar diaspora in Switzerland, recently visited the University of Prishtina (UP). They were joined by several UP students who are receiving scholarships from the foundation.
During a meeting with the university's leadership, the foundation's coordinator for Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Albania, Labinot Kunushevci, shared that since its establishment in 2021, the "Vildana" Foundation has granted 50 scholarships to Albanian students from Kosovo and the surrounding region. Forty of these have been given to students at the University of Prishtina.
He explained that these scholarships are unique because they are paid out every month and continue until the student completes their degree program. They are available for both bachelor's and master's students.
Recipients of a "Vildana" scholarship cannot have any other scholarship. Priority is given to applicants from families with multiple students, those who have lost a parent, or those enrolled in more costly fields of study. The call for applications is published each year in September, ahead of the new academic year, through the universities.
Coordinator Kunushevci stated that the Albanian diaspora has strong faith in the potential of UP students and called investment in education the safest investment possible. He and the UP students Shkumbin Haxha, Elza Nuredini, Anika Fonda, Zana Morina, and Art Gjuli were welcomed by Rector Prof. Dr. Arben Hajrullahu and Vice-Rector for Budget, Finance, and Public-Private Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Albana Berisha-Qehaja.
The "Vildana" Foundation was founded to honor the life and legacy of a Kosovar woman of the same name, who lived and worked in Switzerland. In addition to support from her family, it is funded by donations from other members of the diaspora.
