The Austrian Ambassador to Kosovo, His Excellency Mr. Georg Schnetzer, visited the University of Prishtina (UP) again today to reaffirm the strong and ongoing partnership between UP and Austrian universities and the Austrian government.
After a meeting to discuss joint projects and future plans, UP Rector Prof. Arben Hajrullahu and Ambassador Schnetzer toured the Austrian Library, located in the UP Faculty of Philology. The library was founded back in 1997, a time when UP students and professors were still expelled from their own university buildings.
For years, the University of Prishtina has worked closely with Austrian higher education institutions and the government. This cooperation includes improving academic laws, creating joint study programs, and exchanging students and professors to strengthen international ties.
Many of UP’s current teaching and research staff completed their studies at Austrian universities.
In fact, during the 1990s, Austrian universities were the only ones in Europe to accept Kosovar students who held diplomas issued by local Kosovar authorities.
This was Ambassador Schnetzer's third visit since Rector Hajrullahu took office. His previous visits were on November 15, 2024, and March 14, 2025, when he inaugurated "Erhard Busek Square" on the UP campus.
